BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - A local organization has announced a new plan and funding to address our area's housing crisis.

Southern Tier 8 Regional Board announced that it received $200,000 in funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission to build workforce housing.

Regional Planning Director for Southern Tier 8, Beth Lucas says when middle-income households can't find suitable homes, they move into homes that would otherwise serve low-income households. She says this drives up rents, limits supply, and makes it harder for families with the greatest need to find housing.
