RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - A year after launching an $8 million investment called Roofs Over Rutland, local and state leaders on Tuesday toured six new finished apartments on Wales Street.
The program’s $8 million in public and private funding helped begin development for 89 units throughout the city, ranging from affordable to workforce housing as well as high-end apartments.
“We want the full spectrum, and when we start to eat away at some of that negative vacancy rate where people who are looking for housing are starting to get it, you’ll start to see a shift in where people move to,” said Rutland Mayor Mike Doenges.
Funding levels will need to increase for Roofs Over Rutland if the city is going to advance beyond its current 89-unit housing plan.
