LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Louisville women are riding out Hurricane Melissa as it roars across Jamaica.

The view from Johni Ison’s balcony shows an island resort bracing for impact.

“Tree branches are breaking off. Right now, we are just in the beginning,” Ison told Spectrum News during a FaceTime call.

We spoke to Ison just a few hours before Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Tuesday. “We still haven’t come to terms fully that we’re in a hurricane because it still looks like a storm to us right now,” Ison said.

Ison and her partner Courtney Allen arrived in Montego Bay last week to celebrate Allen’s birthday. They’ve been locked down in their hotel since Monday night. The couple has been updating their families regularly for as long as they have cellular service.
