SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Friday night, the streets of Sioux Falls will be packed with little ghosts and goblins trick-or-treating. But before the fun begins, parents need to make sure their kids are ready for a safe and maybe even unpredictable night.

From warm, comfortable costumes to checking candy and paying attention to cars, there is a lot to be aware of on this holiday.

“Halloween night is an unusual night for most families,” said Nancy Raether, who serves as the Community Programs Coordinator for Sanford Child Services. “It’s not something we do very often. And so you should stick with routines.”

According to the American Red Cross, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year.
