A young cricketer is fighting for his life in a Melbourne hospital after he was critically injured during a pre-game warm-up in the city’s outer-east.

Emergency services were called to Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully at 4.45pm on Tuesday after the 17-year-old boy was injured in the nets.

The teenager was assessed and treated by specialised paramedics and then rushed to hospital.

“A teenage male has been transported by road ambulance to Monash Medical Centre Clayton in a critical condition,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

The match was part of a Twenty20 tournament run by the Ringwood and District Cricket Association, according to the Ferntree Gully Cricket C
