A teenage cricket player is on life support after suffering a severe injury during warm-ups in Melbourne’s east.
The teen was critically injured during a pre-game warm-up for a Twenty20 tournament on Tuesday about 4:45pm.
Emergency services were called to Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully following reports of a serious incident in the training nets.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Monash Medical Centre.
It is understood he suffered a head injury when he was struck by a ball despite wearing a helmet.
Code Sports reported he was not listed to play in the match.
The boy was described as a rising star representing Ferntree Gully in under-age competitions and was also known as an accomplished junior footballer.
