A child has tragically died after the smell of chemicals was detected in a flat in East London .

Emergency services were called to a property on Barking Road in Upton Park after two adults and two children were taken to hospital complaining of a chemical odour.

One of the youngsters sadly passed away whilst receiving treatment in hospital.

The incident prompted the evacuation of around 12 people from nearby homes as a precautionary measure whilst specialist crews responded.

The alarm was raised at 1.18pm and the operation concluded by 4.23pm, reports MyLondon .
