A murder investigation has been initiated following the fatal stabbing of a young man in south-east London. The incident occurred on Hither Green Lane, where police were alerted by the London Ambulance Service at approximately 3.20pm today.
Upon arrival, paramedics provided immediate treatment to the victim, who was in his 20s. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim's family has been notified and is currently receiving support from specialist officers.
Superintendent Nick Jowett, from the Metropolitan Police’s Royal Borough of Greenwich team, expressed condolences, stating, "Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this distressing time. Although we are in the very early stages of the investigation, I can assure you that detectives are working at pace to identify those responsible for this senseless attack."
In response to the incident, local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area. Superintendent Jowett encouraged the community to engage with officers, saying, "Please speak to them if you have any concerns."
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information to contact them via 101, quoting reference number 4648/28OCT. Hither Green Lane and Benin Street remain closed as investigations continue into this tragic event.
