OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - With families tightening their budgets for things like food and rent, local clothing pantries say more people are turning to free options.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report showing consumer prices rose 0.3% in September. That drove the annual inflation rate from 2.9% to 3% -- the highest it’s been since January.

CNN found that means the typical American household is spending more than $200 more in September than this time last year.

With those inflation prices, local pantries told me today, families turning to local resources for new clothes this season.

“It’s a fear. A lot of people are coming up more now saying that they’re afraid things are getting worse, and they’re not sure what’s going on,” Veda Keeler, Executive Director of Project Hope ,
