WATERLOO, Iowa — A math teacher in the Waterloo School District has received a $500 grant from the Cedar Valley Tools for Schools program.
Gwen Lawson, a math teacher for fourth graders at Lincoln Elementary, plans to use the funds to provide snacks for her 62 students. She aims to offer items like granola bars and fruit snacks to help keep students energized.
Lawson said lunch is served early in the day, and she has observed that many students struggle to focus in class due to hunger.
"We will pass out snacks to all classrooms. Each day there will be a specific time to give out snacks, so they will grab a snack if they want one and have it while we do warm-ups in class," Lawson said.
The Tools for Schools program is a partnership between KWWL and Green State Credit Union. For those in
