CHAMPION, Ohio (WKBN) - The city of Warren and Champion Township have made a deal that will mean extra money for both when Mercy Health opens its new hospital in Champion.
The sign is up in Champion, where work has started on the new Mercy Health hospital next to the Kent State Trumbull campus. Four miles away, a committee of the Warren City Council was being briefed on the new Joint Economic District, or JEDD, with Champion. Eventually, half the income tax generated at Mercy Health will go to Warren and half to Champion.
"We're talking about infrastructure or additional turning lanes because there will be a lot more traffic in and out of Educational Highway around Kent State," said Mike Keys, with Community Development. "So, we'll be doing some infrastructure improvement there."
