Syracuse, N.Y. — For the first time this fall, the basketball was bouncing and shoes were squeaking across the JMA Wireless Dome’s hardwood in game action.

And the Syracuse women’s basketball team cruised to a 98-62 blowout exhibition win over Daemen, showing promise after assembling a new-look squad in the offseason.

The changes came following a 12-18 campaign, the Orange’s worst since Felisha Legette-Jack took over as head coach in 2022.

Though it was against a Division II program, Tuesday was an encouraging unofficial start to SU’s season.

Alongside junior Sophie Burrows (10 points on six shots), Texas transfer Laila Phelia (17 points, three made 3s) and freshman Uche Izoje (19 points in 13 minutes) flashed potential that the Orange could have a promising new big three.
