PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Portland Fire officially introduced Alex Sarama on Tuesday as the head coach for the new WNBA team ’s inaugural season.
Sarama most recently served as director of player development for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but has previous Portland coaching experience with the Rip City Remix.
“What I remember here is the fans are so passionate about basketball,” Sarama said.
Fire General Manager Vanja Cernivec said they hired Sarama because he is a coaching innovator, and they want to create something unique - not just in the WNBA, but across professional sports.
