EASLEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A retired law enforcement officer who served for 30 years has filed a lawsuit against the Easley Police Department and the City of Easley, claiming he was wrongfully arrested and mistreated by officers in 2024.

The lawsuit alleges 72-year-old Roger Stewart contacted police about a suspicious individual parked close to a children’s bus stop on Feb. 8, 2024. He then went to photograph the individual in his car and placed his gun in his jacket pocket, although he did not point it.

The individual called 911 to report Stewart’s conduct, and police obtained a warrant for Stewart’s arrest. He did not resist or evade arrest; however, five officers responded to take him into custody. This show of force was unnecessary, according to the lawsuit.
