ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - On Tuesday the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) demonstrated how to properly cut and prepare food for toddlers during a press conference.
The presentation was part of the state’s brand-new “Chop, Look, Listen” campaign aimed at providing childcare centers with tips and tools to minimize choking dangers.
“One child dies every five days from choking. Seventy-five percent of these deaths occur in children under age three,” DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs said.
This comes after two choking-related deaths at Georgia daycares over the last year.
One of those deaths happened at Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool in Alpharetta, when 16-month-old Juan Martin choked on a piece of mango.
