More than half a million people in Jamaica lost power as of Tuesday evening. Many people in Connecticut haven't spoken to their family on the island in hours.

“It's very sad to see this happening and not being able to do anything and knowing there's really nothing that one can do," Nadine Barnett Cosby, a Connecticut resident and dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, said.

Cosby said her cousins in Jamaica hunkered down, unable to evacuate before the storm hit. She's worried about possible landslides if flooding worsens.
