BAKER, La. (Louisiana First) — A major infrastructure project is officially underway in Baker, aiming to reduce flooding and make one of the city’s busiest roadways safer for everyone.
Groom Road is a vital corridor connecting neighborhoods, schools, churches, and businesses. But for years, the area has faced persistent flooding and limited options for pedestrians and cyclists. City and parish leaders broke ground Tuesday on the Groom Road Corridor Improvements Project, a $5.56 million investment that’s part of the Move BR program.
“This is where everybody lives. All the schools are here,” said Mayor Darnell Waites, highlighting why the project is so significant for residents.
