A barrier on in the work zone south of the I-295 split was struck again Tuesday, but it is not going away.
DelDOT is currently in the second of 6 phases of rehabbing the bridge over the Christina River as it converges with the White Clay Creek.
Work began in January 2025, and is expected to run into the Fall of 2026.
Between through traffic and shoulders, the roadway can handle about 14 lanes of traffic, and DelDOT is taking full advantage in an attempt to fix the bridge without taking away the 5 through lanes in each direction.
The initial phase was done in the middle of the highway, where repairs were made to the middle of the bridge, with through traffic being spread to each side.
