LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Fern Creek firefighter is receiving national recognition after saving a child from drowning while off duty earlier this year .
Sgt. Aaron Dossey of Fern Creek Fire and EMS was honored in New York City’s Times Square on National First Responders Day for his heroic efforts.
The recognition came as part of a national tribute organized by the First Responders Children’s Foundation, which celebrates the courage and dedication of first responders across the country.
Dossey was on vacation in March at an out-of-state water park when he noticed a child struggling in the water. Without missing a beat, he jumped in, pulled the child to safety and provided emergency care until more help arrived.
