TEXAS CITY
Two men are charged with a theft of copper wiring that caused extensive damage to an emergency water facility, leaving it temporarily inoperable, police said.
Texas City police Oct. 15 responded to a burglary and theft at an emergency backup well site in the 3900 block of FM 2004.
Investigators found copper wire had been stripped from the facility and significant damage had been done to the electrical systems.
Police later arrested David Knight Haney and Brent John Wentland on warrants for Theft of Property valued between $150,000 and $300,000 and Damaging a Critical Infrastructure Facility valued over $100,000.
Haney’s bond was set at $380,000, while Wentland’s bond was set at $370,000. The two remained in the Galveston County jail Tuesday.
“It was a mess,” said Jack Hara
