Some of the children accused of embarking on a crime spree gripping the northern WA town of Kununurra "belong in detention", the state's Corrective Services Minister says.

Community leaders have called for local crime diversion solutions, while extra police have been sent to the Kimberley town to deal with the ongoing problem.
WA's Police Minister has also called for an approach that did not resort to locking children up in detention in Perth.
But Corrective Services Minister Paul Papalia was adamant juvenile detention was the solution for some offenders.
