New Delhi: Stellantis have a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine called the Hurricane 4 Turbo, and it is one of the first bulk-manufactured engines to use a passive turbulent jet ignition (TJI) system. In performance, it makes 324 bhp and 450 Nm of torque, and it is going to appear in the refreshed 2026 Grand Cherokee, which the brand have revealed now.

TJI makes use of a small “cup-like” pre-chamber atop each cylinder in order to initiate ignition. Once it is ignited, the burning fuel expands into a standard combustion chamber, where a faster, more complete burn occurs. Stellantis have said that the engine uses 10 per cent less fuel while managing to produce 20 per cent more power than the brand’s at present 2.0-litre four-cylinder.
