MOT tests are set to undergo major changes that will see testers snapping photos of vehicles, in a bid to curb fraud. In an initial trial of the new policy, 170 MOT testers across 62 garages were tasked with capturing images of cars and other vehicles using mobile phones or tablets.
These images were then automatically uploaded to the digital MOT Testing Service, serving as proof that the vehicle was indeed present for the test. This measure is designed to stop fraudulent 'ghost' MOTs, where an MOT certificate is issued without the vehicle actually undergoing the annual inspection.
