From today, women across England can access the morning after pill free of charge at thousands of pharmacies.

In what has been described as "biggest change to sexual health services since the 1960s", the NHS has rolled out the scheme to make emergency contraception more accessible to women across the country.

Nearly 10,000 pharmacies are offering the oral emergency contraceptive pill for free from Wednesday (October 29), eliminating the need for a GP visit or a sexual health clinic appointment.

Health bosses have called the move a "game-changer" in making sexual healthcare more accessible.
