Costumed children in Toms River will have to wait until Nov. 1 to fill their buckets with sweet treats this Halloween.
The town usually has children go out to trick-or-treat on Oct. 30 because of the annual Toms River Fire Company No. 1 Halloween Parade held on Oct. 31.
However, a strong storm that forecasters expect to bring heavy rain to the Garden State on Thursday prompted town officials to move trick-or-treating to the day after Halloween, Toms River Mayor Dan Rodrick announced Tuesday night via a text to residents.
This year’s 86th Halloween parade is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Friday, with Saturday as its rain date.
Rain is expected to end late Thursday night or Friday morning, but strong gusty winds may linger throughout much of the day on Friday, forecasters say.
