Millions of New Jerseyans will cast their votes in the state's gubernatorial election Nov. 4 — and plenty will want to document themselves doing so.
In the social media era, taking a picture during the voting process has become almost as important as actually filling out the ballot to some people. Whether sharing political views or simply showing proof of fulfilling a civic duty, Instagram feeds on the first Tuesday in November are now inundated with "I Voted" stickers and other election-related content.
But Garden State residents planning to take photos should keep the phones away while inside the polling center. Otherwise, they are likely breaking the law.
New Jersey prohibits any photography, including selfies, of completed ballots during the process. The restriction is addressed in
