Columbia Public Schools will have new in-house guidance for legal matters after the hiring of a new general counsel.
The creation of this position was approved by the CPS board in July . Susan Goldammer was announced as the district's choice Monday evening, Oct. 27.
The position provides day-to-day legal guidance to the district, including on matters related to governance, compliance, contracts, personnel and policy development, along with supervising the district coordinator of compliance and investigation and ensuring district compliance with Missouri's Sunshine Law. The new position was celebrated by both board members and Superintendent Jeff Klein back in July.
"In my experience, this is a real value-add option," he said at the time.
