NEW DELHI: After more than half a century, Delhi has turned once again to artificial rainmaking — this time in a bid to wash away its toxic winter smog. On Tuesday, the Delhi government, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, carried out a cloud-seeding trial over the national capital. The experiment marks only the third such attempt since Independence, with the last one held over fifty years ago. A small Cessna aircraft took off from Kanpur, releasing eight fire flares over areas including Burari, north Karol Bagh, and Mayur Vihar before landing at the Meerut airfield. “The trial lasted for about half an hour,” Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said in a video statement, calling it a key step in the city’s fight against worsening air
