SPARTANBURG, S.C. —

Roads are closed in part of Spartanburg as crews respond to hazardous materials incident.

Spartanburg Fire Department assistant chief of administration Philip P. Starck says CSX is conducting a flare operation to mitigate the hazard of a tank car. Starck says the operation is controlled and does not present immediate danger to the public.

Roads in the area are closed as a precaution. This includes Wofford St. from St. John to Forest St., Clinton St., and Brawley St. from the railroad overpass to Clinton St.

Starck says the operation is expected to be in place for 24 to 48 hours.
