DARE COUNTY, N.C. —

Five homes on the Outer Banks of North Carolina collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday as strong winds and heavy surf hit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in Buxton.

According to the National Park Service, dramatic video captured the moments when two of the homes fell victim to the elements during high tide.

None of the homes were occupied at the time.

A fifth home tumbled into the ocean later in the day.

A total of nine Outer Banks homes have collapsed just this month, bringing the total to 27 since 2020.
