Halloween happens Friday. Expect knocks on the door plus hoots and hollers. Over the years, the night before All Hallows Day on Nov. 1 has become one that differs greatly from the “wimpy” Halloweens of old ... when turning over trash cans or the rare treat might actually be given after knocking on a neighbor’s door. Once commercial candy makers realized the profits available for the treats on Halloween, the holiday blew into a major money maker for candy makers as well as commercial costumes, parties and events, such as haunted houses.
