NEDERLAND, Texas — The Nederland Independent School District board, on Wednesday morning, selected Dr. Steven Beagle, the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, as the lone finalist to become the next superintendent .

Beagle will fill the position left vacant by Superintendent Dr. Stuart Kieschnick, who announced in July his intention to retire effective Dec. 19. Under Texas law, the district must wait a minimum of 21 days after publicly identifying a lone finalist before finalizing the appointment.

He holds a doctorate of education and currently serves as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Nederland ISD.
