BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Locals on the Suncoast who have family in Jamaica are anxiously watching Hurricane Melissa as it makes its way across the island.
Rodney Williams, owner of Rodney’s Jamaican Grill in West Bradenton, said he and his crew have a lot of family in Jamaica and are concerned for their safety.
“I have my grandkids, I have my sister, and I have my grandma. My grandma is right here with me. I’m keeping them close to me,” said Rodney’s Jamaican Grill owner, Rodney William.
Williams’ mom, Sonya Johnson, would have been on the island as well, battling the massive storm, but she’s been in Bradenton on vacation to visit her son, leaving her other three kids, 12 grandchildren, and 96-year-old mom on their own, who she says she’s extremely worried about.
