A truck transporting Rhesus monkeys from the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center crashed Tuesday afternoon on I-59 in Jasper County in southeast Mississippi. To the east of Jasper County is Clarke County, Mississippi, then Choctaw County, Alabama.
After the accident, a number of monkeys escaped , out of 21 total, with five having been euthanized and three remaining unaccounted for.
Tulane staff arrived at the scene of the crash and are actively searching the area alongside local authorities for the remaining missing monkeys, 16 WAPT reported.
