Former Ohio State center Bob Maggs, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, has died “unexpectedly,” his family has announced . He was 61 years old.
An Ohio native, Maggs was a four-year letterman at Ohio State. He was also the starting center for the Buckeyes in 1985 and 1986.
“Those who knew Bob will remember him as the ‘Gentle Giant’ -- for his kind heart, his warm, happy smile, and his fierce love for his family,” his obituary reads.
After his football career ended, Bob Maggs worked in sales at Mueller Roofing Distributors. When he wasn’t working, he “loved golfing, football, being by the water, and spending time with his many family and friends,” according to his obituary.
Bob’s son, Mason Maggs, is currently a walk-on quarterback for the Buckeyes.
