PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix police sergeant has partnered with a Valley nonprofit to provide Thanksgiving meals to community members in need, and that’s Something Good.

Sgt. Terry Laaker said he has seen many community members in need and wanted to help. On his own, Laaker helped provide many meals to families.

“What started as one or two grew to five. I think the most I ever did was 20, which hurt financially,” Laaker said.

That’s when Melinda Cadena, the executive director of Angels on Patrol, reached out to help. His mission matched her organization’s, which aims to help the community through police officers.

“The reach that we’re doing in helping them, it’s amazing,” Cadena said. “We’ve helped 26,000 individuals because an officer asked us to.”
