While Colorado wildlife officials have shared their intent to continue moving forward with wolf reintroduction in the state, their efforts are running into new roadblocks.
The Trump administration has informed wildlife officials in Colorado that wolves cannot be imported from Canada or Alaska, where Colorado Parks and Wildlife were exploring and planning. A letter from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Brian Nesvik to Colorado Parks and Wildlife stated that Colorado must immediately cease and desist any and all efforts related to the capture, transport and/or release of gray wolves not obtained from Rocky Mountain states.
While it’s not clear if other states are still options, states where they can source wolves includes Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.
