TYLER, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday announced that Michael Davis, a district judge for multiple East Texas counties, will be a justice for the 12th Court of Appeals.

Davis will fill the Place 3 role on the court left open through Justice Greg Neeley's resignation, which becomes effective at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

Davis' term will begin Nov. 1 for a term set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026 or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified, Abbott's announcement read.

Davis, of Palestine, is the judge for the 369th District Court in Anderson, Cherokee and Leon counties. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the Texas Tech University School of Law.
