Fanshawe College’s Alex Leinweber won the gold medal in 24 minutes, 49 seconds at the Ontario collegiate cross-country championships this past weekend at Marydale Park in Mount Hope.
The Mother Teresa grad and first-year post-secondary runner finished 23 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor and was also named OCAA rookie of the year. He followed in the footsteps of Matt Talbot, who won gold as a rookie last year with the Falcons.
Overall, Fanshawe finished with team bronze while the women’s team finished second and were led by Grace Boyce’s fifth-place result. This was the fifth straight year the Falcons finished on the provincial podium.
The Canadian collegiate championships will be held in Brookvale, P.E.I.,
