JONESBORO — Coal-fired plants have provided low-cost electricity for Jonesboro residents for more than 40 years, but a new plant is expected to be even more cost-efficient, Jake Rice III, general manager of City Water and Light said.

“This is a very important day for our customers,” Rice said Tuesday as the CWL Board of Directors approved documents involving ownership agreements for a new 1,500 megawatt combined-cycle natural gas plant near Newark in Independence County. kAm%96 >2DD:G6 A=2?E H:== C6A=246 E96 4@2=\7:C65 86?6C2E@CD 2E E96 D2>6 D:E6[ H9:49 :D D4965F=65 E@ 4=@D6 s64] b`[ a_b_ 2D A2CE @7 2 D6EE=6>6?E :? 2 A@==FE:@? =2HDF:E 3C@F89E 3J E96 $:6CC2 r=F3 @7 pC<2?D2D]k^Am kAmt?E6C8J pC<2?D2D :D E96 AC:>2CJ @H?6C @7 E92E 724:=:EJ]k^Am kAmpC<2?D2D t=64EC:4 r@@A6C2E:G6 r@CA] :D 56
