MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — An officer is injured and a suspect is dead after a police-involved shooting early Wednesday morning in Mesa.
Mesa Police responded to a trespassing call near Ray and Sossaman roads just before 3 a.m. The caller told dispatchers that a man who was possibly impaired was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot.
When officers arrived at the scene, Det. John Dreyer said the man was combative and drove away. Police pursued and used a Grappler device to stop the man’s car, but the suspect reportedly kept his foot on the accelerator, trying to get away.
Det. Dreyer said officers tried to use less-lethal weapons to take the man into custody, including a bean bag and a PepperBall, but the suspect still did not comply. After a short standoff, investigators say the man the
