LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Fayette County Public Schools board meeting turned into a seven-minute standoff Monday night when Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins walked out as a community member prepared to speak during public comment.

Matthew Vied was called to address the board moments before Liggins left the room. Vied refused to begin his comments until the superintendent returned.
“Should I wait?” Vied asked. “I’m not starting till he comes back.”
Other speakers also refused to use their time until Liggins returned to the meeting.
Board Chair Tyler Murphy told Vied he could begin his nine-minute allotment, which included time donated by other speakers. Vied said he wanted Liggins to hear his message.
