The people who will run councils in the absence of mayors have been elected.

Councils across Perth held in-house elections for their deputy mayors after local government elections earlier this month.

Some were chosen just days after the elections, while in other councils the position was left vacant for more than a week.

The City of Melville council elected Matthew Woodall as its new deputy mayor on October 21. He was first elected deputy mayor in 2017.

Cr Woodall was one of four who put their hands up for the job. The others were councillor Clive Ross, immediate past deputy mayor Cr Karen Wheatland, and Cr Glynis Barber.
