LEXINGTON, Ky. — The fight to give all teachers and unionized staff a seat at the table in contract negotiations with Kentucky’s second-largest school district continues.
A motion to put collective bargaining on Monday night’s Fayette County Public Schools board meeting agenda was voted down 3 to 2 after board member Monica Mundy requested the vote.
“Each member of the board has had it for at least since January because we have two new board members, but the majority of them have had it for almost two years,” said Laura Hartke, an organizer with AFT-120.
The resolution she is referring to would allow teachers and other unionized staff to vote on whether they want a collective bargaining agreement and, if they do, which union represents them. Right now, a workgroup with Fayette County
