BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Governor Andy Beshear has officially proclaimed Tuesday, Oct. 29, as ‘Buckle up, Put Phone Down Day in Kentucky to encourage drivers to wear seatbelts and avoid distractions while driving.
Kentucky joins several other states in recognizing the annual campaign, which promotes highway safety and raises awareness about the danger of using a phone while driving.
Officials say distracted driving has become one of the leading causes of crashes on us roads over the past decade. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety, distracted driving contributes to more than 40,000 crashes, 11,000 injuries and 150 deaths each year in Kentucky alone.
