WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A sense of relief came for Sedgwick County on Wednesday with news that the county will not be receiving a 38% decrease in funding for its Community Corrections Act program. The program provides resources for felony offenders in an effort to keep them out of prison.

Last month, Sedgwick County leaders expressed concerns about how the state would fund the Community Corrections Act (CCA) in 2026. The CCA plays a crucial role in reducing prison overcrowding by providing alternatives to incarceration. The fear was that Sedgwick County was projected to lose more than $2 million in CCA funding next year . County leaders warned that if this happened, it would lead to increased safety risks for the community.
