A Vancouver man was sentenced last week to about 7½ years in prison for stabbing his girlfriend multiple times with a kitchen knife at their east Vancouver apartment in 2024.
Jonathan O. Betts, 34, pleaded guilty Oct. 24 to attempted first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with a witness and two counts of violating a domestic violence court order.
In May 2024, a mental health evaluation of Betts found that at the time of the offense he displayed active symptoms of psychosis. However, it also found Betts had the capacity to perceive the nature and quality of his actions.
On March 14, 2024, Vancouver police responded about 5 p.m. to a disturbance at the First Street Station Apartments, 16119 S.E. First St. A woman reported her boyfriend, Betts, was having a mental breakdown
