FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - City leaders shared mixed opinions on the budget passed Tuesday night by the Fort Wayne City Council.

Mayor Sharon Tucker called it “disappointing.”

“We had such a great momentum that we were working on, and what we witnessed today was council putting a stop to the growth and momentum of the city of Fort Wayne,” Tucker said.

Councilwoman Michelle Chambers (At-Large) agrees, calling the council “shortsided”. She and Councilwoman Rohli Booker (6th district) were the only ones who voted ‘nay’ on the budget.

But Council President Russ Jehl (2nd district) said cuts need to be made because they were given a budget with a $19 million deficit - the largest in the city’s history.
