Should the ACT Legislative Assembly be enlarged, say from its present 25 members to 35?

At one level, the argument for enlargement is irresistible.

On any comparison with other jurisdictions, the ratio of MPs to electors in Canberra is small, perhaps absurdly small.

Particularly when the role of our ACT legislature in delivering local government is taken into account, Canberra looks grossly underrepresented.

The task of governing modern communities grows daily more complex, and the skills and time commitment of elected representatives are more in demand.

When the number of such representatives is too small, important community issues get overlooked and the problems of individual electors, needing help as they interface with government services, remain unresolved.
