SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The United Cajun Navy has deployed volunteers to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, with teams working to provide relief supplies and medical assistance across areas hit by what officials call one of the strongest storms they have ever responded to.
Brian Trascher, National Vice President with the United Cajun Navy, said several volunteers traveled to Jamaica before Hurricane Melissa made landfall. Once the storm passed, teams started relief efforts in the Kingston area and are working their way to Montego Bay, which has been harder to access.
The volunteers have encountered extensive flooding, infrastructure damage, roofs torn off buildings and trees and debris scattered throughout affected areas. Teams have come across people who needed medical attention an
